The Office of Health Equity through Education and Leadership (HEEL) and colleagues were awarded a grant from the American Medical Association to explore mechanisms of achieving equity in medical student assessment. The team will participate in a learning community of medical schools nationally alongside subject matter experts to ensure UNC SOM is a national leader in preparing medical school graduates to improve health equity in all stages of their careers.

The grant team includes core members of HEEL (Dr Shannelle Campbell, Dr Emily Vander Schaaf, and Cat Baker), along with Dr Keyona Oni (Director of Undergraduate Clinical Education at UNC SOM Charlotte’s Novant campus) and Dr Kim Nichols (Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education). HEEL provides leadership across medical school courses, phases, and campuses to ultimately achieve health and wellbeing of all people in North Carolina.
