Dear Teammates,

As we approach the general election next week, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of this time and the role each of us plays in our democracy. Voting is a fundamental right, and we encourage all teammates to participate in this vital process. Federal, state and local races will all be on the ballot on November 5. You can check your voter registration, find your sample ballot, and locate your polling place by visiting the North Carolina State Board of Elections’ website at http://www.ncsbe.gov/.
While we encourage you to exercise your right as private citizens of North Carolina to vote, please be mindful that as an affiliated enterprise of the University of North Carolina System and as a School of Medicine affiliated with the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, political activities can only be done on your personal time using personal resources. If engaging in any political activities, you cannot suggest that you are representing the views of UNC-Chapel Hill, the School of Medicine or UNC Health.
The current political climate is highly charged and given the close races we’re seeing, it’s likely that we’re all interacting with people who hold differing points of view every day, including at work. However, one of our strengths is how we deliver Carolina Care and ensuring our patients and teammates feel welcome. We urge everyone to approach this time with respect and understanding toward those who may hold different political views from your own.
In the coming days, there may be moments of uncertainty, especially as it may take several days before winners are declared for the presidential race or some congressional races. During this time, UNC Health will not comment on the preliminary results or election process. Instead, we will focus on delivering on our mission to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians. Regardless of election outcomes, UNC Health’s mission and values remain steadfast.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the political environment, please access UNC Health’s available teammate assistance resources. For a list of those resources, visit this listing to see what support is available to you.
Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our mission and for continuing to foster a respectful and supportive environment for your teammates, patients, and learners.
Regards,
Kevin Howell
