Due to an Aetna system issue, some UNC Health providers are missing from the in-network list, affecting State teammates* enrolling for 2025 State Health Plan benefits and patients seeking care.
While selecting a primary care provider (PCP) during Open Enrollment is not mandatory, it is recommended to ease the transition to Aetna from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Additionally, not selecting a PCP will result in a higher copay ($25 instead of $10) on the Enhanced PPO Plan (80/20).
Until resolved:
- Members can select a PCP at the same location as their in-network preferred provider to benefit from the reduced copay, with updates allowed anytime. PCP changes made before Jan. 1, 2025, take effect on that date; changes after take effect immediately.
- Members can also update their PCP via Benefitfocus online or by calling in December.
Aetna is working to resolve the issue, which affects multiple organizations, not just UNC Health.
