Stephen Bogdewic, PhD, has announced that he will retire from his position as senior associate dean for Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development (FALD) on June 1, 2025. He has served in this role since Jan. 1, 2022.

As senior associate dean, he has worked closely with Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Jennifer Wu, MD, MPH, on building a vision for FALD’s future. Areas of growth in FALD under Steve’s leadership include the UNC School of Medicine Coaching Academy, the Leadership in Academic Medicine Program, Leading Transformation in Academic Medicine, and most importantly, recruiting a strong team to advance the efforts of FALD.

Bogdewic joined FALD in July 2019 as an executive coach and brought his extensive experience from his time as Executive Vice Dean at Indiana University School of Medicine to this position.

Steve earned his doctorate in adult education and organizational development from UNC and his MA in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Santa Clara University.

Steve has accumulated several honors during his career in academia. In 2008, he was elected to honorary membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. In 2012, he received the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Faculty Affairs Carole J Bland Phronesis Award for dedicated and selfless promotion of faculty vitality. In 2019, he was awarded the Indiana University President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and was also honored by having a funded lectureship named after him—the Stephen P. Bogdewic Lectureship in Medical Leadership. Prior to his career in academic medicine, Bogdewic served as a pilot for seven years in the United States Navy.
