The Offices of Medical Student Education seek a clinical faculty member to oversee Social and Health Systems-5 for the UNC medical students starting in March 2025.

Social and Health Systems 5 is longitudinal and designed to develop an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger context and systems of health care, which is often referred to as Health Systems Science. Health Systems Science is increasingly recognized as an independent science that complements Basic Science and Clinical Science. It focuses on aspects of the team approach to patient care and systems for patient care (e.g. type of medical coverage, health care resources, home resources, and cultural needs).

Ideal for this position is someone who loves developing and implementing innovative curricula, is organized, detail-oriented, and efficient, and understands and advocates for the importance of this content.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Review and grade student assignments.  As this is a longitudinal course, many assignments are graded in January-March.
  2. Create new assignments or modify current assignments to meet competencies set by UNC SOM and improve student learning and course satisfaction.
  3. Review and integrate course feedback from students, Individualization Phase team, and Curricular Affairs team.
  4. Attend monthly Individualization Phase Committee meetings (1st Tuesday of each month 3:30-4:30), annual meetings with Individualization Phase team and Curricular Affairs team, and annual meetings with students.
  5. Meet other expectations for other Individualization Phase Course Directors and Curricular Affairs team.
  6. Interact with students in the course to promote learning, increase engagement, address concerns, and ensure a positive learning experience.
