Shannelle Campbell, MD, MPH, has been announced as Faculty Director of Admissions for the Office of Medical Student Education, effective August 1. In this new role, Dr. Campbell will provide strategic leadership in the recruitment, selection, and matriculation of incoming medical students. She will collaborate closely with the Associate Dean for Admissions and the Senior Director for Admissions to advance a mission-aligned, outcomes-driven admissions process.

A general surgeon and health policy-trained clinician who began her career in private practice, Dr. Campbell brings firsthand insight into the clinical and professional landscape facing today’s physicians. This experience informs her commitment to selecting students who are mission-aligned and prepared to serve and lead across NC and beyond. Dr. Campbell received her MD and MPH from Yale University and completed her general surgery residency at UNC. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and has been a key leader in admissions and medical student education.
