Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to share news that Janet Hadar has accepted a new position as system chief operating officer at UAB Health System. Her final day at UNC Hospitals is Monday, Dec. 1. We are incredibly thankful to Janet for her 24 years of service and proud of her as she takes this next step in her career.
Janet started at UNC Hospitals as a nursing manager on the geriatrics unit. Over the following two decades, Janet rose in leadership at UNC Hospitals and UNC Health until being appointed as president and CEO of UNC Hospitals in Oct. 2019.
In her new role, Janet will report to the CEO of UAB Health System, and will be responsible for the execution, coordination, integration, and optimization of UAB Medicine’s delivery system. UAB Medicine, the academic medical center enterprise located in Birmingham, Alabama, is the cornerstone of UAB Health System supported by its recently acquired network of community hospitals and ambulatory operations.
Janet leaves a tremendous legacy at UNC Hospitals. During her time as president, she successfully oversaw the planning & execution of the COVID-19 pandemic response, growth and integration across several campuses including the construction of the N.C. Surgical Hospital, the acute Rehabilitation Facility in Hillsborough, and several ambulatory locations. In partnership with the state, Janet helped develop a 54-bed child & adolescent behavioral health hospital. Under her leadership, UNC Hospitals achieved Leapfrog grade A and CMS 5 Star Rating, moved up 25 places in the Vizient AMC quality rankings, which resulted in the organization being recognized as the annual Rising Star in Quality. Her commitment to clinical excellence contributed to UNC Hospitals being one of the longest tenured Magnet sites in the state.
Please join me in congratulating Janet and thanking her for her years of service and many accomplishments. We will announce an interim leadership structure in November.
Jeff Lindsay
