The 2022 – 2023 Carolina Cares, Carolina Shares State Employees Combined Campaign launched Sept. 29. The campaign aims to strengthen North Carolina communities and provide UNC-Chapel Hill employees with an opportunity to make a difference across the state and nationally.

The UNC School of Medicine has a tradition of giving back to the communities it serves. For employees who would like to learn more about how to participate, the 2022 Giving Guide and a searchable list of charities are available online. The guide outlines hundreds of charities that employees can choose to support and donations can be made online through an SSO/Onyen password protected page. Employees who would like to support the work of the SOM/UNC Health Foundation may use code 2558!

UNC School of Medicine employees who participate will be eligible for prizes drawn every two weeks, including Carolina folding chairs, a backpack cooler, cornhole board game, duffle bag, and hardcase carry on.

Steph Trilling from LCCC was chosen as the first week’s raffle winner.

Janice Wereszczak in the Department of Pediatrics was chosen on Oct. 21 as the winner of the Tar Heels folding chair.

Carolina Poulton in the UNC Kidney Center won the North Carolina Tar Heels 2’ x 3’ cornhole board game on Nov. 4.

Kathleen Ferrell from the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease won the Tar Heels duffel bag on Nov. 18.

Aneika Carroll from Neurology won the carry-on spinner bag on Dec. 9.

Giving Tuesday will be on Nov. 29, and the campaign’s ePledge platform closes at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31. The minimum pledge amount is $3.

Questions about School of Medicine participation in the campaign can be sent to Martha Modlin, the SOM CCCS Division Leader.
