Brian Strahl, PhD, professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, will serve in the role of interim assistant dean for research of the School of Medicine.
This role is overseen by Vice Dean for Research Blossom Damania, PhD, and it focuses on overseeing the infrastructure, communication and development necessary to bolster the growing research enterprise of the School of Medicine.
Strahl will continue his research program based on understanding chromatin organization and histone post-translational modifications that are essential for chromatin structure and function. Strahl brings a wealth of administrative experience to this role, having served as interim chair for the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics from May 2020 to July 2022, and currently serving as associate chair for transition and planning in the Department and a diversity committee member. He is also the faculty director of the UNC High-throughput Peptide Synthesis and Array Facility and the co-director of the Chromatin and Epigenetics Program.
