UNC School of Medicine IT is planning to implement a change related to Microsoft Safe Links on the morning of Sept. 21. There should be little to no impact to users.

What is Microsoft Safe Links?

Microsoft Safe Links is a security feature that works behind the scenes to check a list of known, malicious links when users click links in email.

How does it work?

If Microsoft determines the link is safe, the user will be taken to the website as usual. If Microsoft determines the link is malicious, the user will be prompted with a warning.

Even with this feature enabled, users should continue to be vigilant because new, malicious websites may not yet be known by Microsoft.

The SOM IT Security Office is happy to answer questions and is willing to take part in group meetings to discuss this and other security awareness topics. For questions or to schedule time with a member of the security team, please reach out to sominfosec@listserv.med.unc.edu.
