Joan Taylor, PhD, has been named associate dean for faculty affairs and leadership development in the School of Medicine. Taylor currently is a professor in the Department of Pathology.

Taylor will begin work in her new role on Sept. 15 and she will focus on collaboration with FALD and SOM leaders and staff to develop institutional programming and policies ensuring a clear and equitable promotion and tenure process; collaboration with the senior associate dean and SOM leadership to develop guidelines and policies supporting faculty retention; identifying best practices in appointments and promotion, retention, mentoring and faculty vitality; and ensuring a transparent and equitable process for faculty awards, recognition and standing committee elections.

Taylor has served in numerous leadership roles in her more than 20 years with the School of Medicine, including several years as vice chair for research in the Department of Pathology and as associate director of the McAllister Heart Institute. She earned her B.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
