Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to share that Dr. Azita G. Hamedani has been named President of UNC Health Faculty Physicians and Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs for UNC School of Medicine following a national search.
She will begin her work in the role on March 17.
Dr. Hamedani is the founding chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health (UWSMPH). During her tenure, she oversaw the establishment and subsequent success of the emergency medicine residency program and medical school educational offerings, as well as significant expansion of clinical services and emergency medicine research programs. She currently serves as a senior advisor in both the medical school and the health system, with areas of focus including integration of clinical efforts, information services, and innovation.
Dr. Hamedani possesses a wealth of experience in academic and clinical leadership and we are excited that she will bring those skills to the UNC Health Faculty Practice. We look forward to collaborating with her to advance the Faculty Practice and enhance access, quality, patient satisfaction, and safety. We are also excited about how her fresh ideas and perspectives can positively transform our organization.
Dr. Hamedani earned her MD and MPH from Yale University School of Medicine and Yale University School of Public Health. She earned her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She completed her residency training at Mass General Brigham. During her career, she has gained significant experience in program building, faculty development, change management, strategy and operations, and health care finance.
