Meghan Rebuli, PhD, ATSF, has been appointed as the new Director of the Curriculum in Toxicology and Environmental Medicine (CiTEM) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Rebuli will officially assume this role on Monday, Jan. 13, succeeding Ilona Jaspers, PhD, who has accepted a senior Investigator position at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and Chief of the NIH-wide Center for Climate Change and Health Research.

Dr. Rebuli brings a wealth of expertise, innovation, and dedication to her new role, having served as the Director of Graduate Studies in CiTEM, as well as other roles. She has been with UNC since 2015, including her postdoctoral training in inhalation toxicology at the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma, and Lung Biology (CEMALB) and as faculty. Dr. Rebuli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, where her groundbreaking research focuses on sex-based differences in environmental lung diseases. Her pioneering studies, which include innovative methodologies such as non-invasive nasal sampling techniques, have garnered international recognition and led to numerous collaborations with leading institutions.

An exceptional mentor and educator, Dr. Rebuli has demonstrated her passion for training the next generation of scientists. Under her leadership, CiTEM students have excelled, with many securing prestigious NIH F31 fellowships and other national awards. Dr. Rebuli’s focus on fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment is evident through her initiatives, such as developing comprehensive program resources and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the curriculum.

Dr. Rebuli’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as CiTEM continues to expand its influence in toxicology and environmental health research. Her innovative approaches, combined with her extensive teaching experience and dedication to mentorship, will undoubtedly guide the program to new heights.
