Lisa Carey, MD, has been named chief clinical research officer of UNC Clinical Research Partners. She begins her work in the role on July 1. Carey is the L. Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer Distinguished Professor for Breast Cancer Research and the Deputy Director of Clinical Sciences in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
UNC Clinical Research Partners (CRP) is a joint effort between UNC Health and UNC-Chapel Hill to improve our clinical research environment. The UNC CRP is a component of the Amplified Academics work under the UNC Health Forward Together 2030, the School of Medicine: Accelerate Forward Together strategic plan, and UNC-Chapel Hill’s Strategic Research Roadmap.
UNC CRP will focus on maximizing clinical research in all fields of medicine sponsored by industry and other non-federal partners to coordinate clinical trials offered to UNC patients across the healthcare system, including patients from rural hospitals. It will leverage existing relationships and resources to advance our shared clinical and research missions.
In her new role, Carey will serve as the executive and clinical research leader for the enterprise and will serve as a bridge between UNC Health and UNC-Chapel Hill in this capacity. She will be responsible for expanding access to innovative treatments and clinical care across the UNC Health network and increasing the number of clinical trials in all fields of medicine across the system.
Carey is an internationally recognized breast cancer physician-researcher, who, in partnership with scientists at UNC-Chapel Hill and around the world, is focused on advancing the understanding and characterization of molecular subtypes of breast cancer in order to develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies.
