Harvey Lineberry, PhD, associate dean for human resources and vice president of HR coordination at the School of Medicine, will retire this summer.

Harvey’s career in academic human resources began as an undergraduate at Appalachian State University, where he worked in the Provost’s Office assisting with faculty contracts.

Over the years, Harvey contributed to several universities across North Carolina, including UNC Greensboro, Wake Forest University, and NCSU’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He was also an original member of the “Change Agent States Project,” an 18-state consortium aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion within land-grant institutions.

With decades of experience and advocacy, Harvey became an essential part of the School of Medicine’s leadership team, serving as the primary authority on personnel matters. He built strong partnerships with organizations like UNC Health, the university community, and the statewide AHEC network.

We are grateful to Harvey for his wisdom, dedication, and commitment to advancing human resources and supporting both faculty and staff. His influence has helped foster a collaborative and inclusive culture that will have an enduring impact on the school.

Sharing a personal note, Harvey said, “When I was born, my family lived in a two-bedroom millhouse in Saxapahaw, and I was the first in my family to attend college. I’m immensely grateful to so many people who helped and encouraged me in my career.”

The School of Medicine is likewise deeply grateful for his service. Thank you, Harvey, and congratulations on your retirement.
