The Offices of Medical Student Education (OMSE) seeks a Co-Director for the Patient Centered Care (PCC) Courses (PCC 1–3) within the Foundation Phase curriculum.  PCC serves as the longitudinal clinical skills curriculum during Foundation Phase and plays a central role in preparing students for success in Application Phase. Spanning all three semesters of Foundation Phase, the PCC courses focus on the development of clinical skills, clinical reasoning, communication skills, and professional identity formation.

The PCC Course Co‑Directors work collaboratively with Foundation Phase leadership, course administrators, and faculty to oversee course design, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement. The Co-Directors share responsibility for administrative oversight, faculty development, student assessment, and curricular innovation for the PCC courses.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Course Administration

  • Attend Foundation Phase meetings and planning sessions.
  • Oversee course setup and maintenance, including Canvas site updates, course materials, and syllabus preparation.
  • Ensure all course components are current and aligned with SOM medical education program objectives and standards.
  • Coordinate with course administrators to ensure timely availability of course materials and placement of students in clinical experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies for grading, evaluation, and feedback timelines.
  • Ensure adequate clinical placements for Clinical Weeks and recruit preceptors as needed.

Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Lead ongoing development and refinement of session objectives, clinical cases, standardized patient encounters, assessment tools, and instructional materials.
  • Oversee student assessment, grading, and narrative evaluation processes.
  • Lead the annual course review processes using student and faculty evaluation data, curriculum outcome measures, and overall course evaluations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of Clinical Week experiences

Teaching and Faculty Development

  • Lead and participate in teaching activities
  • Conduct faculty development sessions to support tutors in teaching strategies, course expectations, and session content.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate course tutors annually and provide ongoing performance feedback to faculty tutors, including development plans when needed.

Student Support and Advising

  • Monitor student progress and identify learners in difficulty.
  • Communicate proactively with students who are struggling and coordinate with Foundation Phase leadership and student support services as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree required
  • Actively involved in providing direct patient care in clinical area of expertise
  • Demonstrated commitment to medical student education, clinical skills instruction, and patient-centered care
  • Experience facilitating small-group learning and teaching clinical skills preferred.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills

Compensation and Support

Preference will be given to candidates who are current or recent PCC tutors. The Co-Director will receive 40% salary support up to an educational salary cap on an annual basis. Ideal candidates will be interviewed, with a final appointment anticipated by the end of July and salary support beginning September 2026.
