App Phase CBLC ED Shifts | Emergency Medicine

Note: this course is for UNC SOM students only. This does not apply to students at the Asheville AHEC site.

During Application Phase CBLC, you will be required to complete 5 ED shifts during your rotation.

We have three simple learning objectives during your brief time in the ED.

Regardless of your future choice of specialty, we hope that you:

Gain insight into how the ED functions and interacts with the healthcare system
Develop a sense of what emergency medicine physicians can do for your future patients
Take advantage of this opportunity to evaluate and help manage undifferentiated patients

Please note that we have made changes to the shift card from prior years to reflect these objectives.

Requirements for ALL students:

Watch the ED Module on Canvas before your first ED shift.
Read the Course Manual on Canvas and print the ED shift card on the last page and carry it with you every shift. You will need to complete all required tasks on the ED shift card during your shifts!
Complete your ED Debrief Worksheet by the due date on your site didactic schedule.
