Application Process

We are thrilled you are interested in the UNC Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program!

We accept applications from candidates who will be eligible for a residency training license in the state of North Carolina.  Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited general psychiatry residency program.  Applicants must be US citizens or have a permanent resident visa.

D.O. Applicants are NOT required to submit USMLE scores in addition to their COMLEX scores.

IMG Applicants are required to:

  • have a J-1 visa (UNC Health Care does not sponsor H-1B visas)
  • hold a current ECFMG Certificate (be certified by January 31st)
  • obtain a passing USMLE score in no more than two attempts
  • have at least six months of U.S. clinical experience and not be away from medical school, externships, or active practice for more than five years

All applicants please submit the following materials:

  • CV
  • Personal statement
  • Three LOR’s including one from PD

Additional information including medical school transcript, USMLE/COMLEX transcript, and copies of state medical license(s), DEA certificate and board certifications, when applicable will be requested prior to matriculation.

Offers for the fellowship are made on a rolling basis, and applications are accepted starting in Spring of the PGY-3 year.
