Director:
Jamie K. Capal, MD
Dr. Capal is a neurodevelopmental neurologist. Her clinical and research focus is on neurogenetic conditions resulting in neurodevelopmental disabilities across the lifespan and developing clinical trials to identify, characterize, and develop preventative, disease-modifying treatments. She has spent most of her career caring for TSC individuals. She has been involved in multiple research studies focusing on TSC, including characterizing autism spectrum disorder, and identifying early biomarkers in young children with TSC; examining common features of ASD among different single-gene disorders with a high prevalence of ASD; evaluating safety and efficacy of mTOR inhibitors in preventing epilepsy and ASD in TSC. She is a member of the TANDem Project which aims to generate clinical consensus guidelines for the identification and treatment of TAND clusters to then be incorporated into a toolkit app; develop and validate a quantified, self-report TAND checklist (TAND-SQ); and establish a global TAND consortium. |
