Navigation

The School of Medicine web system has two navigation areas:

  • Primary navigation (top bar) — shows the main sections of a site
  • Section navigation (left-hand navigation) — shows where visitors are within a section and lists related pages

Importance of Good Navigation

Good navigation helps visitors understand where they are, what information is available, and how to move through your site with confidence. When navigation is clear and predictable, people can find what they need quickly without frustration.

Well-structured navigation is also essential for accessibility. Screen readers, keyboard users, and assistive technologies rely on consistent page structure and meaningful navigation to move through content efficiently.

Search engines work the same way. When pages are organized into clear sections with logical parent–child relationships, search engines can better understand and index your content, improving SEO and discoverability.
