Navigation Widget (Section)
School of Medicine websites use a left-hand navigation menu to display links to pages within each section of the site. This navigation is automatically generated using the “Navigation Widget (Section)” widget.
How the Left Navigation Works
The Navigation Widget (Section) widget automatically builds the left navigation based on your site’s page structure.
This widget comes preconfigured on all new sites.
As pages are added, moved, or reorganized, the left navigation updates automatically.
Important
The left navigation depends on the Navigation Widget (Section) widget being present in the Primary widget area.
If this widget is removed:
- The left navigation will no longer appear on the site
- Visitors will have difficulty navigating the site
- Only the top navigation will remain visible
Because of this, sites should leave this widget in place.
Restoring the Left Navigation Widget
If the left navigation disappears, the widget may have been accidentally removed.
To add it back:
- In the dashboard, go to Appearance → Widgets
- Locate the Navigation Widget (Section) widget on the left side of the screen
- You can then add it to the Primary widget area using either of the following methods:
- Drag and Drop – Drag the widget into the Primary widget area on the right side of the screen
- Add Widget Button – Click on the widget, select Primary from the pop-up menu, then click Add Widget
Once added back, the left navigation should immediately reappear on the site.
The left navigation is generated from your site’s page structure. For detailed instructions on managing and organizing it, review the Left Navigation documentation.
