Page Title

Your page title is one of the most important parts of your page. It’s a key on-page SEO element and plays a major role in how both search engines and users interpret your content.

  • Search engines rely on the page title to understand what the page is about.
  • Users often see the page title first in search results, so a clear, compelling title encourages them to click.
  • A well-crafted title helps search engines determine how closely your page matches a user’s search intent.

Because of this, choosing the right title is essential for both usability and SEO.

Tips for Strong Page Titles

  • Ensure the title reflects the content and purpose of the page – Users should understand what the page is about before they click.
  • Use clear, descriptive wording
    • “Faculty Resources”
    • “Residency Curriculum Overview”
    • “About the Department”
  • Avoid abbreviations unless they’re widely known (e.g., “MD Program” is fine)

How Page Titles Determine the URL

WordPress automatically creates a page’s URL based on the page title. This works well most of the time, but in situations like renaming a page or promoting a key page, you may want to change the URL to make it shorter, clearer, or more user-friendly. Learn more on the Changing Page URLs page.
