The School of Medicine (SOM) web system is designed for publishing official, public-facing informational content. It is not intended to function as a secure application platform, file storage system, learning management system, or eCommerce environment.

The following types of content are not permitted within the SOM web system.

Custom JavaScript or Application Code

Custom JavaScript functions, embedded scripts, or third-party application code are not allowed. If your project requires advanced functionality beyond standard WordPress capabilities, contact the Web Team to discuss appropriate alternatives.

Copyrighted Material

Do not upload or publish copyrighted material unless you have explicit permission or the material is licensed for reuse. Link to the original source instead of uploading the file.

Forms Collecting Sensitive Information

The SOM web system is not a secure data collection platform.

For research, clinical, or secure data collection, use approved platforms such as:

  • Qualtrics
  • NC TraCS
  • PRO Core

Course Materials

The SOM web system is not intended to serve as a course management system. Use approved academic platforms such as Canvas or other University-supported systems for course-related content.

Internal or Confidential Documents

If content is not meant for public access, it does not belong on a SOM website.

eCommerce Services

The SOM web system does not support online payment processing, product sales, donation platforms requiring transaction handling, or membership payment systems. If your department needs payment processing or fundraising tools, work with University-approved platforms and contact the appropriate administrative office.
